Exclusive Clip of “The Family” from EW

Since the Luc Besson directed mob comedy “The Family” AKA “Malavita” and starring Robert De Niro, Michelle Pfeiffer and Tommy Lee Jones, coming out next month at September 13, 2013. Promotion has been started seriously with the character posters, TV Spot and now the first exclusive clip from Entertainment Weekly.

‘The Family’ clip: You want a piece of Robert De Niro and Michelle Pfeiffer? EXCLUSIVE

Robert De Niro and Michelle Pfeiffer return to their mob roots in Luc Besson’s action comedy The Family (in theaters September 13). In this exclusive clip, the husband and wife, who are in witness protection along with their two children in a sleepy French village, bicker over De Niro’s character having landed the local plumber in a hospital bed over the sin of disrespect. And who is Pfeiffer’s character to judge? Her own short fuse was apparently lit and she set the grocery store on fire. Old habits die hard. Don’t mess.

The Family also stars Dianna Agron and John D’Leo as the couple’s children, and Tommy Lee Jones as the aggrieved CIA agent trying to keep the volatile family in line. Watch it below.

And also don’t forget the new TV Spot by AMC Theatres.

In June in “USA Today” Michelle was quoted as saying that De Niro is both terrifying and funny in “The Family.” I think that he must hit both of these notes very well to carry this movie.

I see that Harvey Keitel joined De Niro in a restaurant celebration of his 70th. Coincidentally I was watching “Mean Streets” with Keitel and De Niro this past Sunday morning. It is Scorsese’s early street gang movie done shortly after Scorsese’s graduation from NYU. De Niro was both crazy and terrifying in this movie. No wonder he and Scorsese have been a team all of these years. However, we have come to expect a terrifying De Niro when we go to the movies and comedy hasn’t worked well for him. Nonetheless, De Niro hit the right comedy notes in “Silver Lining Playbook” because the movie was the not the silly comedy of the type that has signed on for in recent years and that has disappointed us repeatedly.

If Luc Beeson can pull of the right combination of comedy and mob horror in “The Family” and De Niro can as well then the movie should work well.

Michelle is both brilliant and dutiful. She will support De Niro to the hilt. I am sure that she will do what she needs to do. She is also incredibly dutiful in promoting her movies. Incidentally I saw “The Family” TV spot on AMC during a commercial break from “Mean Streets.”
It is about time that “The Family” is being promoted. I see that Michelle is scheduled on the “Ellen” talk show before the movie’s release in early September. Normally I would see that Michelle is scheduled for many appearances on talk shows prior to a movie’s release. I also see that Relativity Media has had top level shake-ups in its marketing department. I hope that they will get their act together to properly support Michelle and this movie.
I spite of the fact that Michelle must be getting her son ready for his freshman year in college, I am sure that she will hustle in promoting the movie if the marketing department fully supports her. Here’s hoping that the stars align and that Beeson and De Niro can carry it off. Michelle is dutiful and will do what she needs to do. I judge that Tommy Lee Jones is dutiful and brilliant as well. Here’s hoping.
