The Graham Norton Show: Michelle Pfeiffer on meeting Robert De Niro: “I walked in looking like a hooker!”
The actress says she’s been dying to get on screen with De Niro having come close a few times
Michelle Pfeiffer has a rather interesting memory of the first time she met Robert De Niro.
“It was my first audition ever and I don’t know how my agent got me in the room with Robert. I’m surprised he doesn’t remember me because I walked in looking like a hooker!” the actress tells Graham Norton.
While the pair are now starring together in upcoming gangster film The Family, Pfeiffer says it’s not been an easy road getting on screen with De Niro.
“We were in Stardust together and I was so excited to be in a movie with Robert De Niro and then I realised we didn’t have any scenes together. And then we did New Year’s Eve, and once again, no scenes with him. We would see each other on the red carpet and say, ‘Hello, nice to see you, you were wonderful in the movie.’
“So then I get sent this script and I said to my agent, ‘You know what? If I don’t have a scene with him, I am not reading this.’”
THE GRAHAM NORTON SHOW | SERIES 14 – EPISODE 3
You could play a game of consequences with Graham Norton’s guests this week. Norton once shared screen time with guest Michelle Pfeiffer in a film called I Could Never Be Your Woman. Pfeiffer was of course in The Witches of Eastwick with Cher. And Jennifer Saunders once did a rather fine Cher impression/parody on her sketch show. Whether the guests will be sharing memories of all this may depend on whether they can stop the famously outgoing Robert De Niro from hogging the conversation.
3/20. Graham bags a rare interview with big-screen superstar Robert De Niro, as well as Hollywood actress Michelle Pfeiffer, soon to be seen together in gangster comedy The Family. The line-up is completed by comedienne Jennifer Saunders and actress-singer Cher, who performs I Hope You Find It, from her latest album Closer to the Truth. He also subjects more audience members to the dreaded red chair – so their stories had better be good.
Michelle Pfeiffer and Robert De Niro are on The Graham Norton Show on Frday at 10:35pm on BBC One
